Back to School: College Dorm Essentials for Her

It is that time of year again, everyone is grabbing everything they need for heading back to school--from grade school to college. College freshman may have a few jitters about heading off to live on their own--new towns, new friends, new places to live.  Today, I'm sharing some essentials for college dorm life for her, along with two dorm room design boards that she is sure to love.

These dorm essentials are some of my favorite brands that I use and love myself. Investing in a good quality backpack or bag is a must & you cannot go wrong with Jon Hart.  Jon Hart bags are classic designs that will never go out of style & are nearly indestructible.  Fill the bag with the Day Designer, my most favorite planner on the face of the earth, as well as Poppin pens & a water bottle that will keep her beverage of choice cool all day long.

Depending on the dorm & the dorm rules you may have some limitations on what appliances can be kept in the room.  A mini fridge & coffee maker is a MUST, and a mini blender for quick smoothies for those mornings when she is racing out the door to get to class on time.

Other must haves are a good laundry tote (because you know they will be brining all that laundry home to you), good quality towels & shower caddy.  Go ahead & invest in some good quality skin & hair care for them now.  If they don't already have a good skin care regimen, this will help them get use to taking care of their skin & they will thank you 10 years from now.  And of course a good storage cart & a quality trash can that will close because we all know how stinky college kids are.

Once the essentials are all taken care of your girl is going to want a room that she is excited to welcome her friends over to. I've created two different mood boards to help you create a dorm room that she will love. Both are very versatile with neutral palettes so you can add her favorite pops of color throughout the space.  Both boards include bedding from Beddy's Beds, which I absolutely love. The entire bedding fits like a fitted sheet, the sheets are built in & it unzips.  This makes it super easy to make their beds, my 4 year old makes his bed with this bedding!  The work great on those twin size beds in the dorm.

The first room dorm room decor look is black & white chic--blacks, white, pops of gold & blush.  You can always not sue the blush & add in her favorite colors to the space.
