Home Tour: Master Bathroom

When we moved into our home 4 years ago, we pretty much touched every room in the house except the master bathroom.  It was spacious & had everything we needed for it to function.  We didn't have money in the budget to fully redo it, so we decided to wait to do anything to this space. Earlier this year my husband was giving the kids a bath & his foot went through the sheetrock due to a leak we didn't know about.  Our shower pan had ripped & water was leaking up from under the shower.  The shower had to be completely gutted, so we figured we would go ahead & redo the entire bathroom to fit our needs & taste.

You can see below how dark & dated the bathroom was, and it was a lot bigger than our needs.  I didn't need that large of an area to get ready in.

I decided to use the large vanity area & take it in as part of my closet, so now our bathroom is smaller, yet more functional for us & my closet is bigger--win win in my book.

We added shiplap to the entire room, a free standing tub, pretty chandelier & marble look a like tile to complete the shower.

Light, airy with a few rustic elements was the goal for this space.  I couldn't be more happy with the way it turned out.  See something you love in the after photos?  I've worked hard to make it easy for you to shop this look--SHOP OUR HOME will take you to all of the products used in our bathroom remodel.

Mud Room Spruce Up

Sometimes I get in a creative momentum and just can stop myself! Our home's mudroom found itself in the path of my renovation tornado this time around. The SFD has had so many fun renovation and add-on projects lately that I thought I'd take on one for myself... but a much smaller job, of course. This small project of redoing the mudroom consisted of tearing down the old built-ins and creating my own, and obviously adding some good ol' shiplap! Take a look at the transformation below!

Home Office Tour

Our home office was probably one of the funnest rooms to remodel because part of it was a huge surprise for my husband. During the renovation we celebrated his 30th birthday & our 5th anniversary.  I knew I wanted this space to be totally for him. We got rid of the desk in the nook & put in a gun safe.  My husband is an avid hunter with a huge gun collection.  I thought it would be so cool to really show off his safe in the office.  We painted the entire room & planked the wall where the gun safe was installed with old barn wood that my contractor had.  A new light fixture, rug, furniture & of course, his deer to finish off this manly space. My contractor & I were able to keep the surprise under wraps until the Mr. & I had our date night & we just happened to swing by to see the progress on the house.  He was in love!

SFD Home Remodel | Part II | Tomball, TX

We are back sharing more of our home renovations tour here on the blog! This week we are looking at our family room.  We absolutely love this room, both before we bought the house and even more now after the renovations.   We spend so much time here -- watching our favorite TV shows, playing games, coloring with the kids, hosting Bible studies, & just chatting with friends.

When we bought the house, as you can see, it had a really yellow feel to it.  The walls and ceiling were a beige, as was the tile & the stone on the fireplace.  I really wanted to lighten up this room, like we did the rest of the house.  We painted walls, ceilings & trim.  We carried the hardwoods throughout this room. We also didn't like that the TV built ins were on an angle, so we had our carpenter straighten that out for us.  And then we added in our own touches to make it our space.

This space turned out even better than I had imagined it in my head!  It's a space where I hope that people come & immediately feel at home.  A place where people can put their feet on the table & not worry that they will mess up something. A place for sharing life, good conversations, laughter & tears, because we really believe that God created homes to be shared.

SFD Home Remodel | Part I | Tomball, TX

When we bought our house a little over two years ago; it was a dream come true.  Five acres for the kids to run around, a pond for fishing & a dream to redo our home just the way we wanted it.  Oh & the sweet neighbors---long story, but it just so happens that I moved to the country only to live to my aunt's friends from college best friend...did you catch all that?  Well it's like having family here & it's the best! Anyways, back to our story.  The house had fabulous bones, but it was dark...really dark & a bit dated.

Today I'd like to share with y'all the dining room, kitchen & breakfast nook.  First up, the dining room....paint, paint & more paint.  I wanted to lighten this place up & get some updated decor in here.

Next up, the breakfast nook--as you can see it was red...really red, as was the entire kitchen.  In this room we added wood beams to the ceiling to add a little rustic feel, as well as some paint, a new light fixture & our own furniture.  We also decided to continue the wood floors that are in the formal living & dining into the kitchen & breakfast nook.

And last on our Part 1 of the tour is our kitchen, the most drastic change to the house.  When we first looked at the house, I walked into the kitchen and immediately knew exactly what I wanted to do.  Now this kitchen, as is, is really pretty, just not our taste.  The red had to go, and so did the raised area on the island.  And I really really really wanted new windows, which my husband thought I had lost it.  I love the brick around the stove, but due to some issues we ended up having to take it down.  I'm over the moon excited about how it turned out.
